Morphology
Morphology is how a word can be formed. Morphology is also the smallest meaningful unit in linguistic. It is consist of simple word and complex word.
a. Simple word: consist of one or two morpheme, ex: chairs, unlock.
b. Complex word: consist of more than two morpheme, ex: encouragement.
c. Morph: phonetic realization of morpheme.
d. Alomorph: change of sound without changing the meaning of word, ex: carpets, dogs.
e. Root: basic word, ex: unloader.
f. Stem: basic word that are added by one morpheme, ex: encourage. Stem can also be the root. Example:
encourage: root & stem is courage.
g. Affix: additional sound in a word, it can form a new word that has related meaning with previous word. It consist of:
1. Prefix: added in the beginning, ex: encourage.
2. Suffix: added in the last, ex: national.
3. Infix: added in the middle.
4. Circumfix: added in the beginning and last, ex: unobserved.
5. Simulfix: change of vowel (in Bahasa: huruf vokal), ex: tooth>teeth.
